A high school friend loved this movie back in the day. Always knew it was very dark, with twisted violence. Been meaning to watch it for a long time, but always hesitated. Little bit a fear in that. My interest was renewed when I learned that South Park's Woodland Critter Christmas blood orgy was inspired by the movie. After a 17 year journey. I finally decided to watch it.
Surprisingly good, until the end, which is par for the course on movies like this. I think it would have been better without the devil/Hell parts. The idea that all this metaphysical stuff happens yet the devil is still susceptible to explosives and gravity just seems stupid. Make it about an evil alien race or something, makes way more sense. Much of the vibe is similar to Pandorum, which probably used Event Horizon as inspiration. Sam Niell's involvement reminds me of In the Mouth of Madness.
Love the techno used to open and close, particularly the Prodigy during ending credits.
