I wasn't expecting 21 Jump Street to be as good as it was. Didn't make the same mistake here. I was properly excited for 22 Jump Street. Fortunately the directors know what they are doing. Here, they put together a quality sequel, maintaining the humor without feeling stale.
It's pretty much exactly the same as the first movie, only with Jonah as the nerdy outsider while Channing Tatum plays the popular jock. The sequel raises the homo-erotism with Tatum's QB BFF. Despite the recycled plot and even jokes, it all works. It might be because Lord and Miller are completely aware of how a sequel is a cash-grab and aren't afraid to exploit the concept. The end credit sequence teasing the next hundred sequels is another joke that hits.
