Slumdog Millionaire
The reviews are really good and there is a lot of hype for this movie, which made me hesitant, afraid it would disappoint. While watching it, I kept asking myself, why is there so much hype? It all came together when I went to score it. Slumdog has no flaws. Engaging, emotional, and uplifting, it's just a great experience. The movie ends on the perfect note: a Bollywood dance number. Don't worry, it has nothing to do with the plot.
Something I love about all of Danny Boyle's movies is the music. Music is incredibly important to the movie experience and the right music can propel a movie from terrible to acceptable. (Hackers is an example. Terrible movie, love the soundtrack, makes it watchable.) Boyle seems to be a big techno/electronica fan. It's the perfect accompaniment for movies, setting a tempo and mood without overwhelming the visuals. He found a great music producer for Slumdog who captures the ambiance of India.
